This week the Ravens faced the Wildcats from Lake Norman High School, and boy was it a nail biter of a game! Despite being in Mooresville rather than their home court, the Ravens fought long and hard for the upper-hand. There were a few instances where it seemed as though they were actually going to defeat the Wildcats, but an injury to one of the Ravens in the third quarter of the game proved otherwise. It was a close game, but still a loss for our Ravens.

Friday night’s game was against the J. F. Webb High School from Oxford, and it was a close one! The Warriors played a strong game against our Ravens and took a lead over them through the first half of the game. By the time half-time hit, the spectators certainly thought the Ravens were going to end another game with a second loss. They were wrong. Coming out of their locker room, the Ravens seemed revitalized and pulled it together at the very end, winning another game.

On this surprisingly warm Valentine’s Day night, it seemed as if love was truly in the air — love for basketball, that is. Our Ravens hit the floor in high spirits and played an amazing game against the North Henderson Knights. It seemed as if no matter what the Knights did, the Ravens were three steps ahead. The Ravens may have won merely because the Knights were playing so poorly, but we’d like to think that the Ravens just bounced back from their loss last week.

Sorry Ravens, you should know by now that if you’re going to have a fight, you really should do it behind closed doors. You have no idea who might be watching … listening… taping. Unfortunately for our Head Cheerleader, something like that just so happened the other night in her not-so-humble abode.

The young man knocking her off that pedestal remains a mystery … but some of us have an idea as to who the gentleman in question is.

Harper: Settle down.

Guy: You know, I’ve been told you were pushy but I’d never seen it, so I just ignored it. But now I have seen it. And if this is you, I’m not interested.

Harper: I bet you’ve been told a lot of things.

Guy: ”I have. And I didn’t believe them. At least, I tried to see it a different way. I really wanted to believe there was more to you.

Harper: You seem to already have written me off then.

Guy: Like I said, if this is you, I’m not interested. You don’t know everything. You don’t know me. You never tried to get to know me, not really, you just wanted to sleep with me, is how it comes off. So don’t tell me how I feel, because you have no fucking idea. Forget basketball season, forget SATs, forget Donovan and— and Michelle, and all of it. If this is you, I’m not interested. Not even a little bit. Thanks for the water.

*Guy starts to leave*

Harper: No. You don’t get to say all of that and then try to leave. Because how dare you. No, I don’t know you but do you know what I know about you? I know that you’re a nice person, but you don’t take anyone’s shit, obviously.

To whoever the mystery man is, hat’s off to you. You’ve truly won this round. Poor Harper. She finally found a man who won’t cater to her every whim. Though, rumor has it, Donovan Carter dumped her after she exhibited irrational behavior. Has the queen of the school finally lost it? Or is this who she’s always been? Time will only tell, but we can’t wait to see the aftermath of this bombshell.

This tape has circulated through the school via a number of different sources, as using all kinds of social media is the way to go for teenagers. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for it to be up on YouTube, Facebook and the like. The person who taped it as well as the original uploader is anonymous. Perhaps the Ravens went into the game with their heads in the clouds, or maybe they even walked in thinking the game would be an easy win. Regardless of the reason, the outcome was unfortunate, to say the least. The Ravens have broke their winning streak as the Warrenton Hawks have defeated them. They played a good game, even if a few of the boys seemed as if they had something else on their minds. Tonight the Hawks soared higher than our dear Ravens. Hopefully they have better luck next week.

“The really crappy part about being back in Tree Hill after being gone so long is you don’t know who you can trust and who you can’t. Everyone’s changed a lot and it’s not like I’m coming into an environment where I know I won’t get a lot of shit. So if you’re going to be someone that’s going to make my life harder, can you just tell me now so we can skip it?”

The first thing that should be known about Alain Browne is that her name is not Alan. She doesn’t know what ever possessed her parents to name her Alain, but here she is. It’s the name she was given and thus the name she must live with. For anyone wondering, Alain is pronounced like “Ah-lane”. She’s heard it butchered to the point of no return, so any mispronunciations are met with a gentle smile and a shrug of ‘you tried’. She doesn’t take it personally; if she had been named something else and had been trying to guess how to say her name, she wouldn’t have been able to do it either. Alain moved to Tree Hill in the middle of the school’s Christmas break, but it’s not Alain’s first time in Tree Hill. Alain was born and raised in the small town and had been perfect content in doing so. If she’d been allowed to grow to adulthood in the town, she probably would be one of those people who wouldn’t ever want to leave. Unfortunately for Alain, at the age of nine her mother got a good paying job in New York and the family packed up and moved. Adjusting in a big school in an even bigger town had been hard for Alain, but she quickly learned how to adapt. She’d seen plenty of movies where the “new girl” went through a series of challenges but inevitably ended up really enjoying her new town and the people she met. It wasn’t the case for Alain. The girls were mean, the boys even meaner, and Alain wanted nothing more but to go back home to Tree Hill. Her parents knew she was miserable but hoped things would get better. Things did, but only after Alain let things quit bothering her. It’s a lot harder to mistreat someone when they don’t allow your words to hurt them, and before long they just left her alone. She did make a good group of friends, and as the years went by, developed feelings for one of her best guy friends who in turn felt the same way. She still missed the small town, but the wound had healed. Time had went on. Until her mother got a job that landed them back in the area. At sixteen, Alain found herself back in the small town and she wasn’t sure how she felt about it. She’d made a life in New York, and her parents had uprooted it and moved once again.

Her parents thought she’d be pleased with the move, and to be honest a part of her was glad to be back. The thing was, she wasn’t sure who her friends were now and who wasn’t. Age changes things. Now she’s just trying to figure out where she fits. At her old high school she’d found her social circle to be about smack dab in the middle. She talked to some of the people that were considered popular, as well as the people that weren’t. The social circles hadn’t ever mattered to her. In all honesty, Alain was probably considered one of the popular kids because no one really had much to say about her negatively. In Tree Hill the circles are different, and basketball seems to be everything. Alain hasn’t really ever seen the allure in basketball, even though she’d spent time going to games in the past due to her boyfriend being a player. She really enjoys soccer and likes a good game of baseball, but basketball just doesn’t do it for her. She’s even played the former of the three sports with some of her friends, though she never tried to play any of them in school. Still, she can be supportive, and she’d go to a game if someone asked her to. More than anything else, she just hopes that she can find her place again in Tree Hill, and that she’ll be reminded of every reason why she was so upset to leave.

Alain is a very easy-going person, never one to really start an argument for no real reason. She doesn’t see the point in creating unnecessary drama, and in fact tries to actively diffuse dramatic situations before they get out of hand. That’s not to say that she doesn’t like some drama from time to time, she just thinks too much of it is exhausting. She makes friends easily, but if she doesn’t like someone, that person definitely knows it. She doesn’t see the sense in pretending to be friends with someone if she doesn’t like them. If someone she doesn’t like and her have a mutual friend, however, she won’t be mean or impolite. She just won’t be a kiss ass. She was raised by two parents who value honesty above all else, and they’ve instilled that in their daughter. Very rarely does she get into trouble with them, but when she does, she gets grounded severely for it. She has a tendency to write people off too quickly if they seem not to like her, which is a remnant of her time spent as a new girl at her old school, and while it’s something she can’t help, it’s not something she’s realized about herself to change.

One more week and another deserving victory. This is the second game for the Ravens and this time, they played against the Millbrook Wildcats from Raleigh. It was an unexpected game in a very negative way for the Wildcats, because even though they started the game out strong, they were unable to keep their energy up enough to beat the Ravens. It looks as though the Ravens are in for one hell of a season.

The first game back has been a highly anticipated one and the Ravens were eager not to disappoint. Tonight’s game was against the Myers Park Mustangs from Charlotte. The Ravens were in such high spirits and so into the game that it came as no surprise to anyone that they defeated the Mustangs, even if the Mustangs did put up an admirable fight! Let’s just hope they can keep this up the rest of the season!
